Volvo Cars visits Simulation Leadership Forum – How has simulation shortened development time for electric cars?
The main driver for the Simulation Leadership Forum is the fact that we are at the very beginning of the adoption curve for engineering simulation as a strategic business enabler. We estimate that less than 5% of companies have initiated such initiatives.

Meet Volvo Cars and here about simulation related to Electric Cars!

But the demand for implementation experience, best (and worst) practices and success stories is increasing rapidly, and the forum is all about this.
And indeed, there are some great examples out there, that can serve as good starting points. Sometimes these great cases have been around for some time and may need an update, and that was the case when Torbjörn Virdung from Volvo Cars joined us as a guest again, two years after his presentation at Simulation Leadership Forum in Copenhagen in 2019.
A lot of things have happened at Volvo cars since 2019, and we talked about how management support for simulation has changed because of the pandemic, how complexity drives interaction across silos and how electric car development has significantly shortened the time for new technology adoption.
Figure 2: Has executive level support for simulation changes during the pandemic?
Finally, we also ran a poll with the audience about the impact of the pandemic on the engineering simulation adoption. It seems things have changed in the positive direction for simulation, maybe not as much as we thought, but it certainly goes in the right direction!

We will be back on September 15 for another follow-up call with Bob Tickel from Cummins, welcome!
