NASCAR set out to develop its revolutionary Next Gen race car with an ambitious launch target for the 2022 racing season. When the COVID-19 pandemic halted access to physical testing facilities, the engineering team relied on Ansys LS-DYNA crash simulations to evaluate vehicle safety across a wide range of impact scenarios, including frontal, side, rear, roof and oblique crashes.
Using Ansys Cloud and Ansys LS-DYNA, NASCAR gained access to scalable computing resources that enabled rapid simulation and design iteration without investing in additional hardware. The approach significantly reduced reliance on costly physical prototypes and crash testing, allowing NASCAR to validate the Next Gen car design and successfully launch it on schedule while maintaining a strong focus on driver safety.
