AI Meets Photonics Simulation: The Lumerical MCP Server
One of the latest additions to Ansys Lumerical, the Lumerical MCP Server, is now available. Thanks to that, it is now possible to use natural langue to interact with Lumerical products.
By connecting AI assistants to Lumerical through PyLumerical, users can create, modify, and analyze simulations using conversational prompts. This allows you to design your own device without controlling manually the relevant parameters. And in case you forgot to add one, the AI assistant will ask information about that.
Beyond simplifying simulation setup, the MCP Server can help guide users through workflows, provide insights into simulation results, and assist with troubleshooting design challenges. This can help both new and experienced users work more efficiently with photonics simulations.
Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open-source standard that enables AI applications to connect to external tools and software. Through MCP, AI assistants can interact directly with Ansys Lumerical to perform tasks and support simulation workflows. The Lumerical MCP Server currently supports the FDTD, MODE, DEVICE, and INTERCONNECT, which can all be scripted, chained together, and iterated on conversationally.
