America’s Cup Yacht Simulation with Ansys Gateway and AWS
Emirates Team New Zealand relies on advanced engineering simulation to optimise the aerodynamic and hydrodynamic performance of its America’s Cup yachts. Using Ansys Fluent and Ansys Mechanical, the team creates digital models that simulate how the yacht performs above and below the water in varying wind, weather and racing conditions. These simulations play a critical role in refining hulls, sails and other performance-critical components while reducing the need for physical testing.
As simulation models grew larger and more complex, the team supplemented its in-house HPC infrastructure with Ansys Gateway powered by AWS. The cloud-based solution enabled engineers to scale computing resources on demand, run more simulations simultaneously and analyse larger design scenarios without hardware limitations. This increased flexibility and simulation throughput helped accelerate yacht development for future America’s Cup competitions.
